Sorry, this Paint-Off challenge is closed for entries.

Going somewhere this summer? Have a memorable journey in past years? For our next prompt, we've decided to have folks paint a landscape inspired by their travels. Whether painted plein air or from a photo, the source doesn't matter so long as it's original. There's no limit to how many works you post, so long as they follow the guidelines below. The paint-off runs until August 1, 2007 at which time it will be closed.

-please include medium and dimensions
-don't forget to include the place that inspired your painting
-new paintings only!

Alrighty, start your brushes!
Happy painting,
Lisa

This sounds like a lot of fun. I am always up for a challenge.

Hi Lisa and fellow artists.
Just popped in to say hello. I have been busy with the art of gardening among other things. I have to give my compliments to all the excellent artists in the forum . It is inspiring to see all the participation and mingling that the Flower Power topic has created. Yet their are moments when I take a deep breath and wonder how could I ever be as good as everyone else. A bit overwhelming, yet exciting.
The new challenge sounds inviting. Hope to be back in the painting mode s.a.p.
Happy Artistry to all. Johanna

To those of you who haven't seen this posted in the Oil forum, here is a painting I completed last week from a photo my husband took when we were in Clifden, County Mayo, Ireland three years ago.  I hope you enjoy.  (oil on canvas, 12x16) ~Kim

Myrna, I look forward to your painting depicting a place that has meaning to you. I think this topic will bring some great responses. I haven't been exposed to a whole lot so I'm looking forward to "traveling" through the postings.
Thank your for your compliment (I'll have to admit I was a little hesitant to be the first to post a painting, but somebody's got to be first, right?) :0)

Excellent work, Kim. I have been out of commission for some time, but plan to get back to painting soon. Then, I'll be posting something under this forum. Your painting looks so inviting. Thanks for sharing. Gene

Hi Lisa:

I am a new member of the forums so I am still trying to learn all the rules. When you said "Landscape", does it include seascape too? I have a photo that primarily shows the sea and some land foreground that I like to paint for this contest but I don't want it to be unqualified.-Sandi

This is 20x24 oil on canvas. Kilauea Point on the northern coast of Kauai, which I visited last month.

Reposted on behalf of the artist:

I am so pleased with the critiques. The opinions of all of you are so helpful and constructive. This painting is 10" X 20" acrylic on canvas board. I had this urge to try and capture the essence of the scenic light houses in this area of New England. Your comments have given me some encouragement to continue, and hpefully improve.

Hello there, Sandi--
Yes, a seascape qualifies. I think at some point a prompt for "Interiors" sounds like a good idea. For now, let's stick with "Exteriors," seascape or otherwise.
Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks Lisa for the clarification.

Since I just did this seascape for a friend, I think I'll put it up here too. It's a 16 X 20 acrylics on canvas. The painting is of sunset in the Hood Canal as this sailboat is heading for moorage. Please excuse the slight tilt. It's the photo not the painting.

Thanks,

Jim

Having computer problems again. I hope I have submitted my painting of Cape St Mary's.  My husband and I did a tour of Newfoundland last year, and this is one of many pictures I took of that trip. This is the "bird rock" an ecological preserve.  There are literally thousands of birds covering those cliffs, roosting on every ledge available, and just soaring around and around the area.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, couldn't keep steady when taking the photo, maybe I'll have to dig out my tripod.Sorry, I always forget the details, it's watercolor 8 1/2 by 11.

Just wondering, will you qualify a landscape collage piece done with the Australian Paper Bark Tree? I originally do pastels, but lately I've been doing some work with this unique medium.

Greetings,

I'm new to the forum so I'm hoping this shows up alright.
I mostly work with acrylic.
This piece is acrylic on watercolor paper, original 11x15.
Mediterranean - The Shoreline - This comes from a trip I took to the area several years ago. The color blue of the sea along the very serene shorelines always stuck with me.

This painting is of a pile of junk cars in  Baja California Sur,  Mexico.

I was attracted to the delicate balance of the pile and the soft colors

of the rusty car bodies.

watercolor..  11 x 14

Dear Lisa,

How new must a painting be to be "new"? Thank you! I'm in the middle of giving (and correcting) finals and don't have much time . . .

May Our Lady bless you with Her Holy Child!

Well, the purpose of the Paint-Offs is to inspire people to paint. Therefore, REALLY new is my answer. I'm hoping people will paint something inspired by the suggestions we give.
