JM Artist............excellent work. Dramatic contrasts and shading, love it. Thank you Retha. I'm afraid I've ruined it though. I sprayed it with fixative, and the charcole went poff, and now it has tiny black specks throughout.I'd say I got a little too close with the spray. Guess that's what's called live and learn! Thank goodness I took the picture before I sprayed. |

I'm so tremendously impressed by the response--and the wonderful images everyone has posted. Let's do another paint-off in June. If anyone has suggestions, please email TAMedit@fwpubs.com with "Paint-off" in the subject line. Awesome work everyone! Lisa |

Myrn, I did the same thing to a pastel portrait I did of my daughters in black and white. It can be so sensitive! This is where computer technology can really come in hand. I scanned the image and cleaned it up in Photoshop and it's perfect now. I was fortunate to get a free copy of PS but you can get an inexpensive version of it called Photoshop Elements (I got a free copy with my digital Camera I just bought)and it has enough of the tools to let you do minor clean up. If computer work is not your thing, you can always go over it again with pastels or say it was MEANT tolook like that. You've added your own unique texture! Hey! You're the artist, it's all up to your interpretation! HeatherL |

| Heather and Lori...............welcome to the forum. Your pictures are fabulous!!!!!!!!! I am looking forward to seeing more work from both of you. Thank you for the suggestions Heather, a friend actually said today that it still looks great, she thought it was supposed to be like that. But when you know different it still kind of bothers you. I may try a bit of pastel though, never thought of that. |

Myrna, thank you. I just took a moment and viewed ALL the posts this time. LOL I'm still trying to find my way around, it seems I get the oldest posts first, so I missed a lot. Your flowers are all lovely. P.S. My sister, whom I dearly loved and just recently passed away was Myrna, and just wanted to say you have a great name for a reminder for me. |

Wow! Very striking -- I really like the contrast of colors and shapes. It is peaceful yet enegetic. This is the first I have heard of chigiri-e. it looks like thin layers of paper -- is it collage? Sabrina |

Hi, Sabrina, Thanks for the nice comments. Yes, it's collage. Somewhere in one of the posts, I explained (somewhat simply) how it's done. Basically, the collage is put together with a mixture of water and white glue, applied with a brush. the paper is Japanese paper, with inks dropped into it, then the paper is torn into shapes. Surely there is a more sophisticated way to achieve chigiri-e according to Japanese tradition, but this is what I learned. L'artiste-poete |

| Here's an iris with a visitor in my garden. Just got it out in graphite--thinking about expanding it to pastels, but here it is. TS |
