This is done wit prima color pencil on Studio Sketch Book 22.9 x30.5 cm . The yellow and green in the background I did with pastel.
My daffodils in the garden are just starting to poke there nose out of the ground. It will be a while till I see there blossom. I just did this with my minds eye.
It is great to see all the great talented. Beautiful work. Just like mother nature herself.

Hi all.........here's my picture at last. Had one done a week or so ago, the the newsletter came out. In it was a piece on copyright. OOPS, felt it may have been treading on someone's toes, so scrapped my 3 lilies and a rose, and came up with MY Peony. MY photo, MY yard, MY garden, therefore MY Peony! It turned out alright also, unfortunately I boobed with the paper as usual.
After all that I can't submit because I can't make my picture smaller. The regular forums will accept them but they're 14kb to big for this topic. Can anyone help me????????????

Hi Myrn. If you have a photo program of any sort ( I have Microsoft Premium 10 ). Try and resize to 200 resolution and 500 pixels. that should bring the photo down to about a two by three inch. .jpeg is also the way to send. If you hold you mouse over the picture for a bit. It will tell you all the pertenent info on how large it is before sending. A little box will come up when you hold the mouse on the photo. I hope this will help you. All photo programs are basicly the same only different termonology. Will be looking forward to seeing you work. I try to upload just under 100 kb. Good Luck

Johanna, your daffodils are so soft and delicate! Such wonderful harbingers of spring, aren't they?!

Myrn - I just replied to your post in the Drawing forum and my instructions were slightly different than Johanna's but both will work - the only real difference is that I've always been told that anything over 72dpi was wasted on the web because that's as high as it processes. Not sure if this is true or not but I still resize to 72 dpi because it makes the file size a little smaller. I included a url to a google search for resizing software in case you don't have any.

I hope we've helped you and we get to see your peony soon!

I hope I have it figured out now. If this works thank you jang for the site. I have it bookmarked now! Thank you johanna also, I'm afraid I'm not very computer literat so this is all quite a learning experience. Well here goes nothing, then like you johanna I'm off to the gardens for some back breaking work so I'll have beautiful flowers to practice on with my new pastels and CPs. Thanks again, this site is so great with a lot of great people always willing to help out.

Wow!! Myrn. You did a beautiful job. Was worth the wait. I must say you know how to grow your flowers. Nice values. Did you do this with pastel. The black in the background makes it stand out. Life is such a muddle sometimes. We have to learn so much just to do one thing.
I will be more then glad to help when I can. It is a pleasure to meet you and see your work. Take care and enjoy the sun.

This was worth the wait indeed! I'm glad you got posting figured out!

I have some Althea (Rose of Sharon) that looks similar to your peony that I'd really love to paint but I'm a little too intimidated! All those ruffled, raggedy petals! Did your peony take a long time to draw?

Thank you for your kind comments, and once again for your help. jang,I don't really know how long it took to draw, but that is the longest and pickiest part, then the fun begins with the "capture" of the shadows. One good thing about a ragged edged petal, you don't need a steady hand! It's great really. I think I spend almost as much time laying awake at night going over a piece in my head as I do producing it! I got to bed last night and remembered that I hadn't posted the size or medium, so here goes.
My Peony is 8"X8" and a combination of graphite, charcole and a tiny bit of colored pencil. johanna, the charcole is the background.

[Note: This image was moved and reposted here for L'artiste-poet.]

"Here is my flower for the paint-off. I work in a lot of different media (watercolor still my favorite), but recently began experimenting with photography - computer-worked into 'art'
This lovely lily from my garden needed a dramatic touch. I call it "Galandriel's Cup".
For this image I was using something called Photo Studio (a freebee with my scanner purchase). Not a stable program. Gave it up and moved on. Any graphic program should turn out nice work, however, just using our painting skills and the tools available. I'm happy with the results, and have done several others with a somewhat similar idea in mind." --L'artiste-poet

This is a beautiful photograph, at first I thought it was photorealism painting. Very dramatic. I love looking at all the work done here so far. Blossoms are slow in my area right now, we have been having really cool weather, so may have to resort to photographs, or buy some flowers from a florist.

Hello, All, I enjoyed watching this thread for all the beautiful flowers and appreciate the comments RE mine. However, the forum pages are taking too long to load for me (no problem with other forums that I belong to) and sometimes I write a reply or comment and it doesn't submit. So, I don't plan on checking in too often. Happy painting to all of you!

You did a lovely job Ron. The pastels make it look so soft. Pastels seem like they would be easier to blend then pencil. I think the background blends in nice with the rose. I will have to try my luck at pastels soon.

Hi Ron, I'm glad to see you are still using those pastels. This is a lovely rose, very soft and delicate. I'll be back to painting this week now that I can stand for a couple of hours at a time..............Gene

I echo gene's sentiments exactly. The petals look so soft and delicate you just know what they would feel like. Nice job.

I'm not going to lie, I painted this last year, but recently went back and added better high lights to it.

JM Artist. I am drawn to this painting. I can feel the sunlight coming in. I want to reach out and touch the leaves. Excellent...

These flowers are really awsome, I have to get cracking and do something. It is hot out here now on NE coast so flowers are starting to bloom.
