I agree with Gene. The dewdrops are especially nice. Cropping might make it a better 'overall' artwork, but the rose is truly lovely at any rate. I tried pastels couple of months ago and blotched it badly. I admire those who use it so well. L'artiste-poete |

I think I 'goofed' I just put my flower image in what I thought was the flower power paint-off section, but it appears as a separate category. Just figured this out: Here is my flower - digitally enhanced photo of a lily from my garden. Thanks! l'artiste-poete |

The first thing I thought when I saw this painting is: "I want to be there!" That speaks volumes. Nicely done. Actually the flowers 'make' this come alive, so you certainly do paint flowers. l'artiste-poete |

Hello, Everyone, My comments on several posts all appear in the same place, I thought I was replying each time to the individual whose work I was commenting on and the posts would appear in sequence. I hope you "connect the dots." Also, as mentioned (newcomer here) I inadvertently put my flower pic in a new category I guess, just under the flower power category. If someone can help me figure this forum out, I would be grateful. I guess I'll just flop around like the fish out of water until I figure out how to hop back in. Enjoyed reading your posts and your artworks. So good to see multiple media displayed. L'artiste-poet |

Another flower one - I haven't seen this media yet. I'd like to know who else does chigiri-e, and if you can tell me more about this medium from your experience. I did this in a recent workshop and have since seen chigiri-e works that seem to be made differently. This is called: "Don't Go, Butterfly" l'artiste-poete |

Lovely flowers, all of you. It is really neat to see different artists work on the same subjet, and everybody's different styles. the chigiri-e is really interesting and I had never heard of it before. I did a search on the internet and found some amazing examples. Very cool. http://www.sejscc.org/chigirie.htm http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Chigiri-e http://pws.prserv.net/chigirie/ I am rather fond of flowers as a subject, since I also love to garden. Its very relaxing for me and makes me think of my Nana. So, my turn — here are my daffodils from my garden. |

Wow! Everyone has posted some outstanding flowers!
Justine, your daffies are lovely - what medium are they and what size? Your garden must be beautiful!
L'artiste, love your chigiri-e and will definitely look into the process more. I love the oriental/sumi-e painting style but can never quite accomplish it - maybe the chigiri-e will be better suited to me and satisfy that "oriental urge!" Thank you for posting as I had never heard of it either.

Thank you Jang. I've been working in my garden all weekend, since we finally have some nice weather. Ooops! forgot to post the specs for my painting. It is soft pastel over a watercolor underpainting on watercolor paper. 14x11. I do think my garden is beautiful, but not because of me, flowers are just naturally beautiful! It doesn't matter if they are in my garden or on the side of the road. I'm not a super gung-ho gardener that plants rare varieties that need lots of pampering, I like things that are hardy and easy growing and require minimum care. Daffs are wonderfully hardy and spread beautifully, and are the first little soldiers to come up in the spring. I love 'em. |

This is my first attempt at a floral-usually not my thing but I'm trying to mix things up a bit. I call this 'Portrait of a redhead'- 12X16 acrylic. Raechel |

So Pretty, Raech! I can just reach out and touch 'redhead'. I'd like to see what other subjects you paint. If flowers aren't your thing, you certainly know how to make them so. L'artiste I'm guessing . . . colored pencil? |

| Hi, Myrna, I agree. Not because I did it, but because I "discovered" it while learning this new medium. This version of chigiri-e (I suspect there are more forms originating from the orient, using more sophisticated materials) is done quite simply. Pieces of Japanese sumi paper or tissue paper are crumpled into loose balls (like paper when you crumple it for the waste basket). Then inks are dropped onto them in different places, soaking into the papers as 'they will' (somewhat like the tie-dye thing). When these are dry you can use them to 'paint' with, by tearing pieces to sizes you want for your image, previously sketched on matboard for example. These are applied with a mixture of Elmer's glue and water (half and half) and a brush. Don't worry about the rough edges: you can smooth them into shape with the brush as you apply the pieces - or leave them ragged for special effects. When the painting is finished, lightly brush the same glue/water mixture over all. Stunning results! ..and great texture. You can add color or details if you like with acrylic paint. The only thing I added here was a bit more black to finish the body of the butterfly. The inked pieces actually worked for the leaves and flowers, center and all. The butterfly was a bonus -the blue edge of the flower piece looked like a butterfly. I got lucky I guess. |

Hi Everyone!!! I just popped in to admire everybodies. work. You all are doing such fantastic art work that I am going to have a hard time keeping up. I have some daffidols that I am working on with prisma color that I do plan to post when done. It is spring here and I have umpteen things that I deed to catch up on outside my art world. I would like to spend 24/7 on art, but it seems impossible. I had a chance to wonder around an art supply store. Was a great experience. So much to choose from. So much to see. I learn a little more each time I come to the forum. I do hope to get back in the swing of things as soon as I can catch up to the nessessities. Johanna.
