Do you have any guidance for artists trying to chose frames that compliment their artwork?  I want to frame my watercolors myself, but the few times I've chosen frames (online ordering), they didn't look right with the paintings.

Try www.pictureframes.com They have a service on the site that if you upload your picture of you watercolor you can see it in different frames.

When I frame my watercolors I choose a mat that will complement the painting. I choose the color from the dominant color in the paintings. If you choose a mat that is light colored then a darker frame might be considered. Choose a frame with less ornamentation as possible.

The most popular way to frame a watercolor is to use a beige mat with a dark brown frame.
