How does most everyone frame prestretched canvas oil paintings into your picture frames. I've seen large staples, nails, U shaped fasteners attached with screws etc. What method is best, especially if you are going to sell them? I have painted several 5 X 7 paintings. The canvas is stapled onto a very narrow frame. Are staples best in this situation? Ajam All suggestions welcomed.

HI Ajam - not sure if this is any better but I use mirror clips. Screw the one side to the frame and the other automatically holds the canvas in place securely. Then, I use a glue gun and place brown paper backing on the frame. It looks finished.

Ajam;

You might consider using a frame that is complemenatry in width to the size of the painting. The proportions should match the size of the painting, and don't skimp on the framing.

If the frame you're using is too narrow, you might consider a wider one. Once you find the appropriate frame, best bet if you plan on selling your work and have it look professional is to use offset brackets. They are typicall available at hardware shops, art supply shops, and sometimes, picture frame shops will sell you a small supply.

Good luck!
