I have been painting with oil paint for 6 years and recently signed up for an acrylic class to expand my horizons. I started my first project by painting a wash on a canvas board. I used just water the first time and it dried streaked and bubbly and uneven. I decided it was the board so I switched to a med. cotton canvas. The paint went on a little better but still disappointing. I tried a flow enhancer for acrylics with some success but still not happy. I painted another coat using a slow dry medium in the hope that i could buy some time to blend the paint but I did not like the medium, it was rather thick and rubbery. I am using various brushes and Liquitex prof acrylic, heavy body and also I have some tubes of academy acrylics. The paint is brand new. Is there something else I can try to loose the streaks and help apply the paint more evenly?
Many thanks in advance!

I think it's easier for a watercolorist to switch to acrylics than an oil painter.   You're trying to thin out "heavy body" acrylics. They're fine for impasto or knife painting, although too shiney for my taste. You're also working on a non-absorbant surface as opposed to watercolor paper.  First make sure you're not using an oil-primed surface. Then I would suggest using liquid acrylics, and a thinning medium of a little retarder and water. I know at least one manufacturer that makes a sample set if cost is a factor.  You might also try sanding the canvas very lightly, and with a very fine sandpaper.
