I have a few canvas frames that seemed to get all warped from heat.  Is there any way for be to fix them myself?  I've had suggestions of pressing them but I don't know exactly how to do that- do I get the damp first to make them more pliable?

I don't know the answer to your question, I have a similar problemthough the prestretched canvas i bought a long time ago did not have cross supports in the back was fine when i bought it and i did not know any better at the time. I learned since then that especially on larger canvases there should be cross braces on the back to keep it from warping. the trouble is that by the time i figured this out i had already painted on my prestretched canvas and i don't know how to fix it.

I have also found it is cheaper to by the wood and the canvas and stretch it yourself. then you also have a better finished product.

Ok- thanx Dawna   I've started buying more deep box canvases since I started out with the thinner ones and haven't had a problem with those at all!

I have the same problem- all the canvases I need to fix are already painted, so hopefully there IS someway to fix it or I'm gonna be really sad

I'll start checking out what you were saying about making it all myself- I've always been a little scared about trying to do that!

Thanks again
Jenn

see the topic reframing in tech talk. doing your own stetcher boards is pretty easy although i'm not sure where to get the materials. when i was still attending school I could get it at the art department's store for pretty cheap and cut to my specifications. then all i had to do was asemble and staple the canvass. not sure where to get the strecher boards now though because i think all Michael's carries it the prestretched canvasses which are pretty worthless.

Ok, I DO have an art supply store I go to that has all those materials and I'm sure they can give me the techniques =)

Do you know how to use the stretcher bars?  I actually have some that came along with a couple of my prestretched canvases- I just have no clue where to put them or how!
