This is my newest painting, untitled as yet, as I'm not quite sure if it's finished. I would sure love any comments you guys might have. I struggled with it a lot to get it to this point, and I'm feeling like our relationship is a bit "tense", if you know what I mean, so I'm not altogether satisfied with the end result. I don't know if it's because of my earlier problems, or if it just nees something else. Thanks so much in advance!

| Don't know if I can help but I'll try. Please remember that opinions differ, and this is just mine. First of all I admire your guts, painting a horse, much less one in motion, would scare me. I think you've done a great job. Most people would say it's finished, but I have to agree with you that something is missing, or needs doing, to pull it around. My first impression was wanting to see more space around him. Or more important space. I think it's a little top-heavy, the lower half of the painting needs more for balance. If you cover each half and look at it that way, it may help. Stronger shadows? Landscape elements? Right now he's alone in a pretty flat landscape. I don't know what photo program you use on your computer, but sometimes it helps to see the painting in black and white, or changing different areas through color or value, if you're up to that. If not, print it out and make some experimental changes on the print. Better yet, cut them out of the print and try the horse and rider on a totally different background. Hope it works out for you, let us know? |
