Artist: Jeffrey Dean
Painting Title: Geese At Daybreak
Media: Acrylic on Canvas.
Size: 14x11"
Date Completed: October 2nd, 2007.
I've had a hard time photographing this painting, in the process losing
the detail in the darker areas, or getting darker shades instead of the
tints of the background. If other images would help in a critique, I'd
be happy to send them.

| It looks stunning. The stark contrasts in light are powerful, and I love it. |

Very nice...tranquil and serene. Well done!

| A very evocative piece for me... I can almost smell the salt sea air and feel the chilly stillness. I'll bet the original is amazing! |

This work is an eye-catcher, for sure. I looked at it for quite awhile trying to figure out why it works so well. Obviously the strong contrasts are a big part of it, but there are subtle touches as well that I just love -- the soft change from water's surface to the mist (fog), the way the upper part of the neck and head of the furthest goose echoes the curve of the back of the closest one. The straight vertical neck placed just to the right of center. The restrained indications of the water...just two strokes....creating that glassy, early morning surface of the pond.
There are so many things to like here, but I decided that for me the strength of this fine painting is the composition. Mike already said it.....there is a real sense of peace in this painting.
Nice work Jeff...
Keep Painting!
