This is for a color theory project. Please tell me what 2-3 colors first come to mind when you think of the word "shame". Be specific and I really appreciate your help with my little poll. I'm trying to figure out a color palette, and I want outside opinion to narrow down what makes the most sense. Thanks !

I don't see any responses to this Nov. question. What colors do I think of when I think Shame? Not sure I can give you any help either.

HI - saw this and had three colors jump into my mind: black - dark Engish red - and varying cool purples. It is however a matter of personality. I have never concerned myself much with color theory. Mixing colors is for me a matter of intuition and experience. If it looks suitable and delicious I will use it and if it works, I'll remember it. Like all the wonderful greys you can get from cobalt blue, burnt sienna and white - in different proportions. To get into the colors you should experiment. For some people spontaneity is the thing. Not for me. I make two or three 7 by 10 color lay-outs for each painting. When I have, what I had in mind, I hang it up where I can see it during painting. Keeps me on track and eliminates time-costly straying. Maybe I should mention that I paint memories - so knowing what I need is necessary, because I have nothing physical to look at. Hope it gives you some ideas

Very interesting request, Mohara. Since art itself stirs up emotions, shame being an emotion, certainly there are some colors that would be more appropriate than others. The bright colors, to me, bring happiness, excitement and joy, whereas the dark, drab colors (also depending on the subject) may bring out sadness, depression and shame. From this viewpoint, I see shame represented by black, dark greys, olive drab and muddied colors without the introduction of anything bright.
