Greetings!
Last week I mentioned that I'd like to see more paintings in progress and explanations of technique, and, lo and behold, look what appeared on the message board:
- On the Pastel forum, bjohnson explained her sand-impregnated gesso technique used on Learning to Fly.
- Many members have enjoyed seeing the storm roll in as they observed the progression of Kim's Thunderstorm on the Oil forum.
- Eyecandy asked a specific question—"Are the colors too strong?"—about his oil painting Sunset over the Mountains, and he got great, specific advice. Eyecandy, I hope you'll post a follow-up photo of your painting!
- Follow up is exactly what Peggy did with her oil painting Study in White. She asked for specific advice about the drapery, got it, put it to use, posted the result, asked for more advice, got it, put it to use and posted again.
These four examples show the give and take of this message board at it's best. My thanks to all those who posted the paintings and comments.
Of course, quietly observing and learning is okay, too. That's another important function of the message board.
Looking ahead, whether you're the posting and commenting type or the observing type, you'll want to keep an eye on the Watercolor & Gouache forum because Pearl has offered to post a teaching demo in the near future. (No pressure, though, Pearl.)
So I got what I wanted to see on the message board just by asking. What would you like to see?
