I have been a member for several months, but this is my first post. I am a mostly self-taught watercolorist who specializes in plants and animals (some furry, some not).

I have enjoyed browsing through some of the amazing work by other members. As a last-minute Merry Christmas, I have attached the trio of poinsettia paintings I created this fall. I used them to make sets of Christmas cards.

Visit my website www.lisahillwatercolorist.com to see more floral watercolors.

Looking forward to sharing and conversing with other artists!

Hi Tiarella, I'm in Auburn, WA where are you? I paint too and lately I'm wondering what to paint on? Should I paint of hardboard? or Canvas? If canvas, should I paint on 3/4 inch stretched canvas or 1 1/2 inch? How about those canvas boards? They could be framed under glass similar to paper? I have always painted on watercolor paper and I want a change. Any suggestions? What did you paint these beautiful poinsettas on?

Hi Ti,
Beautiful paintings. They almost look like they're ready to be made into continuous rolls of wrapping paper for the holidays.

Hi dbannie,

I'm in Richland. I don't think I will be much help with the paper/hardboard/canvas question. I have only painted on Arches #140 cold-pressed paper. I have paper blocks in two small sizes, and when I want to do something larger than 12"x16", I stretch 1/2 sheet or more of loose paper. Maybe I should branch out a bit and try something different for a change! Thanks for your comment about the poinsettias. Each of the three was painted on a 12"x16" sheet from a block.

Hi Tiarella (nice name). I just love your work, and self-taught? You go! They look so real and inviting. I haven't checked out your site yet, but I will definitely. I'm new here myself, so welcome.

To Dreamboat: Since you do watercolor, why don't you try the new watercolor canvas? I like it. You have to be patient at first, but eventually you get the hang of it. It's like painting on linen in acrylic. Also, I've painted on wood quite frequently. That can be fun too. Try it.
