Hi, Everyone!  I decided it was time to be more involved but, unfortunately I don't have that much time available to do so.
I am curious how many other public school art teachers are out there that belong to these forums or blogs.  If you are one of them, do you actually find time to create your own work in the midst of making examples for school, etc., and what mediums do you work in?
I tried very hard to keep myself working after school started last fall but find less and less time to create.  I did work over the summer but not as much as I would have liked.

Hi,

I sure do understand your frustration.  I'm not an art teacher, but I do teach 4th grade and it is a struggle to find time to paint.  I'm new to this forum as well - this is my first post! Summers are the best time to get work done, but like you said, it still isn't enough.  I've just had to resign myself to the fact that my work will progress at a much slower rate... How long have you been teaching?  Good luck to you!

Even though I do not see her often, when I do run into a high school art teacher here, the first thing she says is, 'Are you painting?' And why not?' It is so encouraging for the educated teacher to compliment an old grandmother self-taught artist. I would like to now encourage you to keep trying to squeeze the time in.
When a mother has 5 children, then helps with a lot of grandchildren, it becomes very hard to work the time in for art. Been there, done that.

I haven't beem able to paint in '08 yet, since my husband has had heart surgery.

Hi!

I'm a special education teacher in Pennsylvania, but my college major was art education.  I'll be spending two days a week this summer demonstrating pottery at a local living historical farm, and am signed up for two art workshops over the summer (landscape painting and egg tempera).  I find I need to plan the time to be creating, and also find the company of other creative people exhilarating (did I spell that right???) I checked out your web site - very nice!  I'm trying to find a position in art education, and had my son help me with my web site -  http://www.glusiec.com.  Hey, if anyone in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania or western New Jersey (route 80 area) is reading this and knows of openings for an art teacher...please share!
