Hello painting friends. I live in Iowa and have been painting off and on for about 20 years--some paintings OK, others questionable. I learned from Bob Ross (God rest his soul) and William Alexander (God rest his soul) the wet on wet technique which I love. If I can do it, anyone can. I paint landscapes only. As Bob used to say, "We're putting God's masterpieces on canvas." I have dozens of VCR tapes of Bob and Bill's Public Television Programs and use them as examples for subjects. Hope to visit with many of you in the future. mpbenda

Hi! My sister and her husband were also "Bob Ross Devotees". They painted dozens of really beautiful landscapes, a couple of which I have hanging in my house. They actually set up their canvases as the show was coming on, and would attempt to paint a landscape in half an hour. I know they had a blast doing it!
Keep painting! Jodi

Thanks for responding. I misspoke when I said I have dozens of VHS tapes. I have dozens of shows taped on VHS tapes. As I said, I haven't painted in a while, but am ready to start again I think. I guess what is holding me back is I have to paint in my basement, which does not afford me much room and not very good light. I'll just have to make the best of it. Sob, sob. I suppose I could paint out of doors which I have done before, but I hate to drag everything outside. Again, glad to hear from other Bob Ross fans.

Good to hear from another Bob Ross fan. I misspoke when I said I have several dozen VHS tapes of his shows. I have several dozen of his shows on VHS tape and use them as inspiration and ideas. I am about ready to begin painting again, but I have to paint in my basement, which has limited space and poor lighting. Oh well, I have done it before. I could paint outside I suppose, but hate to drag everything out of doors. Enough of my sad story. Again, good to hear from another fan of Bob Ross. He died much too soon. I thought maybe his son would take over TV shows. He is a good painter also. Thanks for replying.

Hi! I also learned to paint from Bob Ross. I have most of his paints and brushes.

I first painted oil using his technique. I had never even thought of trying oils before I found his books, then I found his show, so I had to get his paints. And I love it!

I enjoy watching Bob Ross on public TV. Alexander's stuff is off the air here but I liked him too. Like you I have taped shows--not Alexander's but Ross and other artists. And again like you, I am just returning to oils after many years with watercolors, acrylics and pencils. I got my interest back by using the mixable oil--the ones that clean up with water. But I then went back to TRUE oils. I joined the North Lights book club so I have a Helen Van Wyks book. I am beginning to use this site, and just figuring out how it works along with WEtcanvas. Good luck and happy, joyous painting.
