Hello everyone,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Henry Sanders and from Oklahoma City. My Art experience started when I was 5 years old by illustrating people, animals, vehicles and landscapes. I began to become accustomed to my drawing until I was in high school during my freshman year (1981). My Art teacher from high school introduced me to other mediums such as oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, charcoals, graphite, pens and pencils. Unfortunately, all of my artworks were left at high school which I came back and asked for those artworks and teacher has told me that they were thrown away. I thought, how can he throw everone's artworks away for all of their hard work? I had to move on and search for Art shop to purchase art supplies but Oklahoma had very limited Art shops. My artworks doesn't stop there and I picked up bits and pieces from Michael's (not my favorite place to go) and Hobby Lobby. All I had was my sketchbooks and still did not find any of the canvas to paint on, etc. Almost a month ago, I nearly injured myself on the job and my spine was not in very good shape. My doctor told me it will take time to heal itself. Then my wife encouraged me to go back to my artworks and we went to Michael's to buy as much as I can to do watercolor, oil painting, acrylic, pastels and charcoals. Once my artworks are done, I'm hoping to get through Art Guild and Art Councils to set up my works in the gallery or Art Expo. This Fall, hoping to enroll at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. in Art or Art History Major. Any feedbacks that I need to know or what to do to take first step?
Thanks, Henry Sanders Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

| I would say just dig right in and start drawing. Your desire to do it is the first step. Good luck.........Gene |

Thank you, Gene, for your kind words and encouragement. I will start doing just that.
I'm trying to get a website set up and find a scanner to scan some of my drawings to show as a gallery.
Wish me luck, Henry |

| Sometimes bad things happen for good reason; sorry about your injury. It may have lead you to what you were create to do ART. You have started in the right direction. Now you have to decided; "Are you going to make a living with it"?, or just do it for your self. If you are going to try to make a living with your art you will have to be looking to the direction of business in art or education in art. Both can be work, some people think artist don't work hard. I know artist in both fields that work lots of hours and spent lots of energy doing their jobs well. Either way you will at least be in a field you love and can grow in, good Luck. scochran |
