Just discovered this site. I look forward to reading and learning about all of you. I have really missed the comraderie of other artists since art school.
I have a subject you could all help me on. We just bought a new house and I am in the market for an easel. Thinking about getting a wall mounted easel. The room I am going to use as my studio is 12' x 11'. I will be working in oil and acrylic probably no larger than 4'x6'.
Have seen many wall mounted and "convertible" easels that look interesting. But I want to make the right decision. In the past, I have had a large studio easel, a triangular based steel easel and a lighter pine tripod syle. I didn't like any of them.
What kind of easel are you using? What do you like or dislike about it?

Welcome,Dewbird! It is good to hear that you are coming back to art! As for easels, I have a plen air tripod easel
for small canvases, and I also use my drafting table. l designed and made my own floor easel from 2" x 2" x 4' wood and that will hold up to 4 ft. canvases. I have not seen many wall easels, and would prolly have to design my own.
Thanks for the good question!

Thanks, for the welcome!
You sound like a kindred sister (brother?) I once designed and made a drawing table that was 12" off the floor but hinged at the front. Made of 4'x6' out of 2x2 oak and plywood. I could stand over it and really "own" or dominate the drawing or painting. It allowed me to work very physically and vigourously.
The hard part was the footprint. Did take up a good chunk of space. I was working in gesso and charcoal and would staple wet paper to the board and then draw over the dry image.
Does that sound like your floor easel?
