Has anyone here donated artwork to a charity? I'm curious how you went about doing it!

Did you get a writeoff for your taxes, too? I know there's still debate about whether artists should be allowed to write off the appraised value of the work or just the cost of the materials. I blogged about it here: http://artistsblog.artistsnetwork.com/Tip+File+Donating+Art.aspx

Yes, but only for those groups I really believe in and that I feel handle the work well.

I have done a few silent auctions for the art gallery etc. But I do my research first and see how the marketing will be handled.

I don't what what I donate to bring my own value down. I am finally getting a small toe-hold in the art world and don't feel I can jeoperdize it right now.

I usually donate a painting to the same organization each year. The org provides me with a form (with their logo/info) to fill in with the name of the painting and the value I assign to it. I provide it, with all of my other personal tax paperwork, to my accountant near tax time.
