Okay, so! In the artist's statement I've made on my website, I say, "'Modern Realism' perhaps best describes my general 'style.'" But after doing some research, I'm not at all sure anymore… there seems to be some conflicting interpretations as to what's what out there.

Sorry folks, my degree wasn't in art so I'm not as certain about these things as perhaps I should be… I'd really like some help with this, you see, because I'm about to get into some major promo stuff and I don't wanna come off like some, well, you know…

I've posted a couple pieces on several of these forums and I'll post this one too. Maybe that'll help. And there're others at my website. (Natch.)

Thanks.

Jeff

Hi Jeff... not sure what 'type' of art this is but I must say I was blown away by the dramatic effect of your paintings... beautiful.

'Modern impressionistic realism'???? Your work varies in style to me, Jeff. Your wildlife and landscapes are more in the realm of realism to me, while your other work is more impressioniistic.
So, I would think that a combination of terms would best describe it...just my opinion.
I would also think that you could describe it as you want. Afterall, it is your work.

p.s. I found this: "Quasi-realism"????

Hi Jeff,

Just joined this forum, and have not checked out your site yet. Looking at your  figure painting posted here, wonder have you reduced the image resolution, if you had, it could be realistic style.  If you have not reduced its image resolution, then it is impressionistic style.

Cheers, poh lai

As a self-taught painter whose style can best be called "The way Bill paints", I notice how artists and observers of art tend to classify or group artists.

I wouldn't know where to begin, so I don't do it.

Instead I tend to group paintings as quiet or striking, somber or bright, large or smalle, etc.

Yours is striking, Jeff.
