I've been trying to locate an Artists Magazine article I read in the last three years, and I've typed in almost every keyword I could think of in the AM index search engine, with no luck. The author describe how he/she painted a floral still life. A lot of detail instruction was given on painting the glass vase. Seems to me that it was a clear glass or cut glass vase. I am looking for the technique of painting glass containers. Does anyone have an idea what issue this was in?

I found several informative sources for painting glass vases. With them I was able to conduct a half hour instruction on the topic, with followup practice time. In many painting-media books there are sections on painting textures like glass, material folds, brass, tree bark, etc. As soon as life quiets down, I will be listing my sources . Happy New Year!

Sorry I didn't see this question earlier! You may be thinking of the November 2006 article in The Artist's Magazine entitled "Clear as Glass" by Jane Jones. It starts on page 26.

Hi Holly,
Thank you for the article. It is the one I remembered, and upon rereading it, it more or less confirmed what advise I found in other places. The one technique not shown other places, was painting the top and bottom elipses and the entire solid background color first before painting the sides of the vase and the reflections. I look forward to trying this.
Again, thank you.
