I posted in a different forum but I want to try one more time to get discussion going about this idea. Fashion week has come and gone and many designers keyed in on art and color. Dolce and gabana invited 3 artists to paint live on stage. They featured painted evening gowns. What if Artists aggragated from  across the globe (easy to do with the internet and social book marking) made their paitings available in an online store  that carried a handbag that showcased paintings. We would have to design a good size bag more like a tote.that also protected the painting. The press would eat the idea up! People could get to know artists by location, search by theme, remove one painting and replace. Frame the removed one to continue to enjoy. Obviously the paintings would be 10 by 12 or so. This would get more artists work seen and appreciated. The bags would sell for about $200 to $300 and the artists would be unknowns because otherwise the price would be prohibitive. People would pay more and there would be a way that those artists that were selling more would be able to increase their price as they became known. I have so many ideas as to how to promote this i can't cover it hear but when people work together for a common cause it is much easier.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Hi. I can upload my images of paintings to a website now and put them on a totebag. The price for them is quite less than $200. They are actually less than $30. I would think you would have problems selling totebags for a $200 dollar price.

Totebags, even as art objects, can't really command as high a price as conventional handbags simply because they aren't as durable as, say, a leather bag. And painting on a canvas bag is definitely not the same thing as painting on a stretched canvas.

If you visit a site like www.etsy.com, you can see many examples of handmade totebags and decorated totebags, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find one going for more than $50 (and that would be one that's hand-sewn).

I am now realizing it may be a better promotional idea for Artists to photograph their paintings and other art work so people for a price can up load it to a Tote Bag like Gowan Studios said. The key is to make it trendy to have a favorite "unknown" artist that you try and collect Tote bags, maybe t shirts. Then the big offers come in as an artist gets more known. Some will do better than others of coarse. Each artist that wanted to be part of this effort would be responsible to do 30 minutes of social bookmarking online. It works incredibly and people like to support those they get to know and want to help them succeed. All that info would come in a weekly strategy outline. I just know all you wonderfully talented and interesting people just need a little direction , inspiration and belief in the great gift of yourself you bring to others but it is all about marketing.
Slap a brand name tag on a "Unknown Artist Tote" ( maybe call it the unknown artist collection) and it represents something. The person carrying it gets a status that appreciating art and supporting art brings.
The only way to know is to get enough artist to want to join the effort and post their art to one central location, put out some press releases to the Big newswires, get some affiliates writing web pages, articles and blogs and see if the show of support doesn't flow in.
You have to believe whatever inspiration or pleasure or your art is giving to people is worth paying the artist. The goal and vision is to promote art of unknown talents, get people thinking and appreciating art more and help the artists connect through the forums on the site. Anyone want to go and be interviewed by oprah when she calls? There is no lack of money. Actually it gives more value to the owner if the bag cost $100 to $300. Many professionals and upwardly mobile people want to carry bags that say I can afford to pay more than the average. Sadly Fake designer purse parties are reported as being so crowded people can't even get in.They pay $100 to $300 for quality copies. It is all about perception and creativity.
