I paint with acrylics.  I love to paint people and sometimes animals.  I'd like to learn how to ghost an image over a background of some kind.  Someone told me once that you just use a small amount of the medium. But by the time I get the face or whatever 3 dimensionalized and looking like the individual, the background is covered.  Any ideas?  Any books or lessons you can suggest?  Thanks.

Have you tried using a value a shade lighter than your background
for the image that you want to ghost?

No, I hadn't considered that. I'm not sure how I would accomplish that. Could you be more specific? I learned to paint through Jerry Yarnell on television. I've have been painting for 6 years, so there are many things I don't know yet.

Say on a value scale of one to ten, your background is a nine, paint the ghosted image an 8 value.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. So if I'm painting a ghosted face over a sea of trees, I would paint the image of the face just a little lighter than the trees, right?

Thanks much. So that means I would have a green face. Hmmm.....
