22" x 15"
watercolor on paper
This is done from a photo taken at a local pond. The waterlilies were white but i changed them to a pink.
All comments welcome.

The painting is very well done as usual. But it gives the impression that the Lillies took a nose dive into the water. Like they were under the water.

The background is the whole reason for this painting- hence the title. Glad you like the painting.

It is very lovely - the colors are gorgeous. And the lilies have that "waxy" look to them; I like the fact that you changed them to pink. I guess I'm seeing like Kathy - but you're saying the background is inspired by the colors of the pond - not that the lilies are IN a pond, right?

I love the background. How did you get the bubble effect- misket, salt or something else? Plus your lilies are beautifully rendered. i didn't think the lilies were underwater when I looked at it- just really liked the whole effect. JMO - Nina

Thanks Kim, the more i think about Kathy's and your comments i feel that maybe i should have some lost edges or some darker edges for the lilies. I am going to try it.
Nina i am happy you liked the background - that is the main focus of the painting. I used a combination of a lot of techniques to get that look - frisket, salt, spray bottle, sponge- are the main ones.

That variety of techniques gave a very interesting background. I bet the painting itself even looks better.

Nice choice of colors to switch the lilly's too. The abstract background is great!

All the best,

Your BG gives much interest to this wonderful painting Priti.
I think your idea of some lost edges would make it even more lovely . Good Job.

This reminds me of the Buddhist story of a lotus blossum rising from the mud up through the dark water to the light; then busting from the water to open in the sunshine. A simile of life.
