Whew! Man this one was taxing on the patience! Lots of stuff to paint. It's finished now and wanted to see what your opinion is on this one. It's part of Gas Works Park in Seattle just as the sun is going down. I thought the colors were cool and tried to capture the oldness and granduer of this old gas processing plant. A strange thing to make into a park but it works! Thanks!

Getting pretty technical Jim. I'll grade you 90% on technical. 90% on illustration and 55% on fine art. Any way that's how I see it.

I like it, the composition works, but the colors and their application could be better eg. i understand that the tank is this yellow/orange color so i would look for opportunities to use a dark purple or blue in the darker areas and leave some areas just white(paper)- just a suggestion.

Oh wow! LOL!!! Kathy, your a tough grader! I can see this is not your cup of tea. Did you ever have one of those things that you just had to do? This was mine. A limited palette challenge. Hopefully it will apeal to someone besides me.
Priti, thank you for your suggestions. I think I'll keep stuff like this off of this forum. As I mentioned to Kathy above, I was limiting the palette to just a few colors and keeping the blues just in the sky. Oh well a swing and a miss! Can't win them all.

All the best,
Jim

Jim, I know the difficulty involved. I would have said 100% on technical, but the curves on the catwalk in the center of center front are a bit off. I hate doing technical curves myself, so I try to avoid them. Here's one I was glad I didn't have to finish.

Jim, this one is definitely not a miss- i think u misunderstood. Whenever i put something on this forum i am looking for how to improve next time, what could i have done differently - this way i get new ideas and my work has grown over the months that i have been here. I think by just ooohs and ahhs (all the time) - no one gets better.

Anyway getting back to this painting, the sky is very well done and so is the tank - and Jim 90% in anything in arty is a very good grade - i am sure u could think of some well known artists who you would not give that grade to.e.g. I am thinking of the later works of Jackson Pollack and the earlier works of Georgia O Keefe.

Thanks Kathy I'm going to fix the catwalk by adjusting the shadow thanks for the catch!
Thank you again to Priti, and you are right, no one just wants positive feedback if they want to grow as an artist. Some times you need a little nudge.

This is very eye catching Jim, you have certainly caught that evening sunlit glow. When you have adjusted the catwalk it will be fabulous. I can understand you being glad that it is finished, with such a lot of detail in the drawing and then the painting I bet you took a big sigh of relief when done.

Hi Pearl,
Thank you very much and yes it was a big sigh to finish it. I know it's not for everyone, but I got some good responses from people on wet canvas that enjoy industrial art. I'll fix the catwalk and maybe adjust some of the stairway and call it good.

All the best,
Jim

I give you an A for effort! This has WAY too many details for me to attempt, but you on the other hand, you tackled it and it came out nicely. It's a very interesting subject and I like it the way it is (with the correction of the catwalk that is mentioned), but I can see where applying what Priti has said would enhance it. Hearing the constructive comments helps me to go deeper, as well. I'm thankful for the input (I think I'm going to solicit even more solid comments in the near future) and I'm glad you see the benefit of it.

Thanks Kim,
Everyone needs to be challenged to go further. Like Priti said, we can't grow by oohs and ahhs. I was really tickled by what Kathy had to say! Getting others opinions and views on something is a good thing as long it is done to be helpful. I'm all for that. Everyone here should be open to critiques.

All the best,
Jim
