| It's beatiful and soft. You've captured a very peaceful expression which nicely supports the verse. |

Well, poo, I just spend some time writing my two cents, posted it and it's gone! Oh well, if two posts show up now you know.
AS I was saying...since a lot of your work depicts the Lord's presence in the world, shouldn't there be a big contrast in values considering He is light and the world is dark? This one has more contrast than others I have seen of yours (unless the difference is in my monitor) and I think makes it more interesting. I think more boldness in contrast would definitely make your message more clear, more emotional and more bold.
Well there it is...my two cents. Make sense?

| Most of my paintings are a reflection of what the Lord is taking me thru at the time. He has been trying to get me to focus on Him and how He feels about me. That's why you don't see much of a contrast. Right now He is all that is important to me. Even this one is a picture of that. |

| Sorry, you mean contrast in color don't you. Its hard to do for me with watercolors. I try to use a lot of indigo but sometimes it dries so much lighter and I don't get the contrast that I want. Any suggestion? |

Hi Intcede, I have the same problem myself! Perhaps some others here will give us some help. I have been doing some exercises in values at wetcanvas. Having a value scale and measuring your painting against it helps as well.
**I try to use a lot of indigo but sometimes it dries so much lighter and I don't get the contrast that I want. Any suggestion? ** Do you use your paint right from the tube or do you empty your tubes into your pallet and rewet when you paint? I have done the latter and think that if I used the darker value pigments straight from the tube I might have better luck.

Love this one and you have such wonderful texture in this one intcede . I agree with tami that there should be more contrast of colour in this particular painting because of the subject. One thing to remember is that when using salt the end result is usually quite a lot lighter so your original wash should be quite strong and not too " washy" One thing I find very interest and love is the face in the bottom right corner in the white area , it is upside down with the chin facing to the right and it appears that the figure in the painting is looking down at it.. Did it just happen or did you plan it ? |

I didn't plan it. The way I paint its actually hard to plan anything, but I saw it and had actually drawn into it, but erased it. The other face and the scripture had come to mind and I felt that was the direction that the Lord wanted me to go. That face looked a bit skull-like to me and with the chaos in the rest of the picture, it felt a lot like my last couple of weeks and so it actually went with the theme. There are times in the Lord, where you just tie a knot and hang on to the last thing He said to you against everything else that is coming your way. That is what this one is all about. Thanks for the tips. I need them. Blessings, Pearl. |

Just out of curiosity, Pearl. Tell me your impression of the face in the right corner. What did you see? What I'd love to do sometime is lay the color down and let someone else finish it and see what happens. Sounds so fun! |

intcede, I see a deep connection between the person and the face as the person appears to be looking down onto it like one would look down into still water to see their reflection. . Well all have more than one face/personality , the one we show our families , one for our friends and the one we show strangers etc. The fact that the 'face/reflection is not facing the right way for a true reflection is interesting and I feel it gives the message that the face we show the world is not necessarily our true one. |

| I love painting like this, because each painting really ends up being like a giant ink blot test. I did another painting which I haven't posted, called 'Coming Out of Hiding.' It showed me coming out from behind some curtains, with an angel behind me with a sword tearing the curtains. I didn't notice until I posted it elsewhere (flickr) that there was a little girl in a yellow dress still behind the curtain. I had a really good feeling about her, like she was the little girl that had never been allowed to exist. Your insights are very good and accurate. I'm still a work in process and more and more of the little girls is coming out. 'Nuff said. Appreciate your comments, Pearl. |
