I used a photo from a friend of some fishing boats. I'm only 5 days away from the Wooden Boat Fair and I'm trying to crank out paintings for it. This one and two more small vingnettes and I think I'm done! Whew! It's suppose to rain this coming weekend. Hopefully not to bad as to ruin the show. Don't need that experience again. Anyway, this is 11X14 on Strathmore 140lb cold press paper. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

All the best,
Jim

This came out really well, i love the pier, and the birds, they add a nice touch to the overall composition.

Jim, I think this has become one of my new favorites from you. The water appears strongly violet on my screen; if it is kind of intense, I think it would be better represented if the water was bluer like the sky - there's not much violet in the sky. I agree with Priti - I like the pier, birds and composition, too.

Thanks Kim, It's funny how water reflections work, but that color was actually there! Not as dark as the picture shows, but that's just my computer.I thought about doing what you suggested but decided I better stick to my gut feel. Thanks again!

Good composition and a nice scene. The water is intense. Why don't you balance it by making the rigging on the boats a shade more dark? After all what is more important the water or the boats? Good luck with the show.

Sorry I missed your comment Kathy! Thank you very much for your input.

Thank you Suzanna, appreciate your comments. The show was pretty much a bust.
Not one painting sold. 1 print and 3 cards is all that people bought. It was good exposure
and got lots of good feedback and some potential commission work, so not a total waste.

Thank you Intcede. What does Intcede mean anyway?

All the best,
Jim

Jim, I've been so curious as to how the show went. I'm disappointed for you that you didn't sell more. But I'm glad that you received lots of positive feedback and I do hope the commissions are to come very soon - you're a good artist and anyone would be fortunate to have one of your works.

Well thank you Kim, that's very nice of you to say, but I think that may be the problem.
I'm a good artist in acrylics, oils, pastels and watercolor, but I'm not a great artist in any of them.
In order for me to grow I think I need to focus on one medium and develop my talent and take it
to another level. I just can't seem to choose. I had one person tell me after visiting my site that my
best work was in palette knife paintings. So even in a medium there are different area of expertise.
I may just end up being a dabbler in all mediums and just be happy that I can.
Thanks again,

All the best,
Jim
