Got this shell in Florida when I went to visit my daughter. Painted it on Arches 300 lb. watercolor paper, cut it out, mounted it on Spectra  wavy art paper. 9x12 inches. I just wish the paper had come in a sand color...

Can't you paint the background paper? The shell has a lot of natural colors in it. It does need a little highlighting to give it a feeling of roundness.

If you want it with a sandy background use a coarse sandpaper mounted on foam board.

Lung Tom: Lung is Thai for "Uncle" the u is pronounced as a oo as in loose.

Great ideas , Kassie and Lung Tom...!!! I'll try both and see what I like best. I never would have thought of using sandpaper....That's why I love this website.

Just wanted to let everyone know I sold this painting this morning. A young couple came to my studio to look for a larger painting. This was a set of two pictures. They spotted these and wanted them too . I told them I was going to change the background and they said "oh,no,' They wanted them as they were. The wife said she liked the white wavy background. You never can figure...So now I'll have to paint more shells so I can try out Lung Tom's idea...
