Watercolor and pen and ink
9" x 12"
We had a long winter this year so this was a pleasure to paint. I enjoyed painting the bright pink flowers - but i think i need to work more on the birds.

Very nice Priti. You are lucky. We have not had any type of finch return yet. The gold finches should be here soon to eat the black sunflower seeds.

This is lovely Priti , wonderful work , especially on the flowers. yes, a little more detail on the birds would add to them as they are the centre of interest .

I like this. I like the colors used. It also has the feeling of waiting.

Nice job Priti,
A little more detail on the birds and you have a winner here!

All the best,

Priti .. as the birds are small in the post it is hard to tell the details but perhaps you could define the feathers more and increase the colour value to make them brighter/darker and make them stand out more. Just a suggestion

Hey Priti!

As usual I love your colorful techniques, for me I don't think you need anymore detail with the birds. There is no such detail in the flowers or greenery. I think there is just enough in keeping with a nice "loose" watercolour. Then again, I am an amateur... just expressing my opinion!!

Great job...as usual!

When a person looks at a bird in the yard they do not see the details of a picture in a bird book unless they are a birder. Excellent painting. The artist makes the hint ,the viewer fills in the rest

I wouldn't add any more the the birds, either. You have a beautiful way of expressing using line and colors. I can see this done in a series of note cards.

Priti,
You have great value changes in the flower and the feeder. Now if that was you purpose and the birds are just an afterthought, than leave your painting as is. The muted background is understandable. If you want the birds to come into play and be more of a focal point than increase the values and the darks.

All the best,
Jim

Thanks everyone for your comments- i really do learn a lot from this forum and your comments. When some of u said that i should increase the values on the birds - i think i understood that and went back to the painting to fix the focal point. Then found .... because the birds are so small and they are set against a light sky that this is a watercolor and i do not want to overwork it, i have decided to leave this one alone and call it done.
Kim your idea of a series is a good one - i am thinking of doing notecards for friends as they are always asking me for a small painting.
