Ok, I wanted a break from pastels and oils, so I took the leap and tried watercolors again. I haven't done any in over 30 years and I had forgotten how hard they actually are! I guess t'm finding out that I'm somewhat of a control freak, cause I didn't like that I CAN"T control the paint so much with watercolors I can 'place' the paint exactly where I want with the oils and I like that! the watercolors kinda go whereever they want to, I don't like that...

Anyway, my hat's off to you watercolor artists! I'm gonna keep trying, but I have to tell you, thay are quite the challenge for me

This is roughly 18"x24", on 140lb paper (don't know what brand), done with Windsor & Newton paints (had them laying around)...

Let me have your honest opinion, please....I won't get hurt

Thank you,

Mike

Ohmigosh, Mike, you are truly multi-talented. I know what you mean about watercolors, though. I have a tough time with them, too. But, if you ask me, this is done very well. Thanks for posting. I haven't put anything on here forever, it seems. I've been in the middle of a bunch of shows, and then decided to take up machine quilting on top of all my other interests. Must be mad! Gene

Thank you, Gene! You are too kind...I like variety. I like to try it all! I like ALL of my fingers in the WHOLE pie! Hopefully, before I leave this world, I can try sculpting also. It's something I've always been interested in...that would make my 'art life' complete.

You sound like you've got a lot going on! You must be 'multi-art' talented also. Not mad, just full of character...that's a GOOD thing!

You took a leap and landed on your feet and did an Irish Jig!
After 30 years!? Great work! Any accomplished watercolor artist
would be proud of this work. Keep it up!

Mike

I had to log on to comment. Your flowers are very nice. This is an excellent painting very well executed. Composition. Colors. etc are all great.

I have to think that when it is framed it will JUMP even more

Remember even if the paints go where they want they only do it under the direction of a conductor. You made some nice music here.

Jerry, thank you!
It is matted and framed now. It's nice, what a frame and matt does for a painting. It does make it 'pop'!
I appreciate your comments..

Hi, Jerry!
Well, it's gone! But, I can tell you that it has a black frame with a matt of the med-dark green that is in the painting. I'm sorry that I didn't photgraph it in the frame, but I don't usually do that anyway...

Mike I'm not much of a follower but this time I am with the crowd. This looks pretty darn good to me for a coming out piece. I suspect the next one will be even better. Can't wait to see it.

Hi Mike
Apart from the technical accomplishment of the piece, I liked the fact that it was a very unusual painting for a watercolour, in other words not the usual predictable piece. I loved the unusual look. So that might be an advantage of moving to painting watercolours from oils and pastel. Perhaps using some oil or pastel techniques with the watercolour medium..?
Im going to look for your oils and pastel pieces now, out of interest.
best wishes

Wingman, thank you! I am hoping to continue in watercolors now that I'm past the 'fear' of using them. All of you here in the watercolor gallery had inspired me to try again. I appreciate the help and critique of my work from such accomplished artists as yourself.

Calrity, thank you also! What an interesting way of looking at this. You have shown me that what I see as a poor WC painting is just a 'different' WC painting. I felt that it was weak in that it didn't look the usual for watercolors. This forum really helps open my eyes and mind. It's definetly a good thing!!

Yes, Clarity's way of looking at it opens not just your eyes but mine as well! Keep trying the watercolors. I will love to see where YOU take them!

Suzanne, It's nice to hear your comments! Thank you, and I will like to see where THEY take me also. Somehow I think they choose where they are going...

Retha, thank you!

Jm, thank you, also! I will try to continue in them. I have many irons in the fire right now, but I do want to do another WC soon.
