I've been having fun doing some portraits lately. All 3 are done 8x10" on Arches 140lb cold press. W&N and DaVinci paints. C&C welcome!

I love looking at really good art and this is really good!!! I've wanted to try portraits for awhile now -- maybe when I do they'll be half as good as this

Hi Shelley
Loved your portraits, particularly the first one. I loved the lights on top of the hair and I wondered, did you use goache or masking fluid?
How nice to find all these nice comments left for me. Thanks so much!
Wingman - I'm really delighted that you feel my tutorials have helped you. For anyone else who's interested, I've posted links to each of the portrait WIP's below.
Clarity - no gouache was used. I masked the hair in the beginning.

Thanks Jan & Egon!
Egon - No special trick. I only soap the brush that I'm using to apply the masking fluid. Get the brush soapy before you dip it in masking fluid and it'll protect the bristles and keep the masking from sticking to them. Then it's very easy to rinse out the brush afterward.
