Hi everyone
You may remember I wrote a while back under the heading NZ Landscape breakthrough. As I have a disability (a brain injury, affecting my ability to do complexity within normal time frames) I was having difficulty mixing subtle colours which was really disappointing as I wanted to paint portraits. However I discovered by accident when painting a landscape that I could layer pure colours and the watercolour and the paper would mix subtle colours for me.
It took me six months to do it but I have painted a portrait using this method. I still found it looked a bit overworked, as, because I dont see everything at once now, I tend to add layers as I see things. But someone at my community art club showed me how to soften my overworked edges with water. Voila!
This seemed to work really well, except for the parts I painted using raw umber and Burnt sienna. I never did get rid of those hard edges.
The portrait is of someone who was my helper and is a very beautiful, feminine, kind person. All feedback and suggestions will be valued. Thankyou. |
