Hi all, This one was tougher than I thought it would be. because it looked so simple. Not for me anyway. I've always loved Japanese wood prints and wanted to try one in watercolor. This is done from a wood print by Hasui Kawase. It's early 1900's. He's one of my favorites. Let me know what you think. Thanks as always, Jim

Hello Jim! This is really cool. I liked it as soon as I saw it. The glow , and the colors of the glow are so nice. Peaceful to me, really. How big is it? Did it take long to do? |

Hi Jim This is nice. I am new to Japanese painting. Is the structure in the middle supposed to be symbollic or it is physically present in the lake waters? Sandeep |

Hi Jim, This is very impressive. Although Kawase Hasui has been dead for 50 years I think that if he was with us he would approve and recognize the dreamlike quality of your watercolor as an extension of the dreamlike mood that he was noted for and broght to his woodblolck prints. Leon |

| I don't know anything about this subject/style, but you've made a pleasing painting. I think this is beautiful. Blues and yellows always draw me in. I'm curious too if the large structure is symbolic or if it's an object in the water. Will you be doing more? |

Hi Sandeep, It is actually in the water. It called a Tomi or "gate". I'm not sure of it's symbolism, it could just be a marker for the city. Jim

Thanks Kim as always for your comments. Yes it really is there or was. Not to sure how long these last or even if they rebuild them. They are remarkable though. Jim

Thank you Charlie for your comments. Really appreciate it. Hi Gene, Thanks alot. Have you got something in the works? Hello Egon, Thanks as always for stopping by. I tried to stay as close to the original as possible, but I guess it could be a little darker. In fact your right, after looking closer at the original, it is darker. That's why I always appreciate your input. Jim

| The skill in painting the water is wonderful. As to the structure of the torii (not tomi) It looks to me that the angle of the base does not agree with the top. As to the reflection on the water: it looks correct to me. With as much water surface wave action very little clear reflection is normal.. |

Thank you LungTom for stopping by. I am embarrassed to say I spelled the name wrong. Thank you for the correction. It's doubly embarrassing because my mother is Japanese. She said it is pronounced phonetically "Toe-rhee-ee" I thought that I would include a copy of the print I used to do the painting. Thank you also for your critique. Jim

| Jim, thanks for posting your reference photo. You certainly added a lot to the scene, by adding your own artistic touch. I like the oranges and pinks. That's what makes the painting so beautiful. Gene |
