My friends have always teased me about cute being the kiss of death in the fine art world, I say pish tosh!  I love cute so I thought I'd better paint the kids before they become hellians!

I'm so glad you painted these! They may be cute, but more importantly, they move me. I remember when my kids were little and I would stare at them while they slept, marveling at what a miraculous gift I had. (I have to admit the quiet and stillness was a nice break, as well. ) I can't do watercolors, so I'm also moved by your ability to capture these moments so successfully using this medium. These bring back some great memories. Thank you for sharing.

I agree with your "Pish tosh" comment. These are more than "cute", they are beautiful! Great paintings. Gene

Beautifully done and from the heart. Our kids grow up so quickly (it seems) that these lovely paintings will be handed down and be admired long after we're gone. They form an essential part of any family album.

Cute - they are!!! But, these are also excellent paintings. You have certainly captured the essence of early childhood. I paint my grandchildren - yes they are cute- but there is also artistic validation in creating a sensitive, beautiful painting - you have done this!

I agree with Barb; you really have something to say. Sandeep, I think she meant (in the title) that you don't want to be "cute" without any other artistic principle, like a greeting card or Thomas Kinkade painting. I especially like the attention to the shapes and the composition of the second painting.

Thanks everyone for your comments, time is flying fast with these hooligans! I think there is a way to create images of "cute" in a fine art way, not sure these do it but I'll keep trying. Cute and nastalgic seem to get the most negative critiques from the fine art world.
Watercolor Lover John, you've put the fire in me to keep up with these kids paintings to pass on down the road. thanks
Portraits can be very involved, doing people you know adds the anxiety, and showing them to those people does too, but doing them in watercolor, well, doubles that anxiety

Great portraits..I really like the symmertical design with the bears.  Symmetrical anything is hard to achieve balance but this works great. JBG
