OK, here's my latest watercolor: Potato Barn, at least I think that's what it is...structure's like this are found on eastern Long Island.

Besides raising ducks and now grapes for wine production, there used to be a huge potato industry. So I think these were used to store the crop over winter before going to market. Anyway, barns structures like this are always half buried.

It's a nice winter scene, I loved the shadow on the snow in the foreground.

What a great painting! You always seem to find different things to paint, and get very unusual compositions from them. Love it!............Gene

Thanks everybody.
I haven't done a strong horizontal painting in a while, I've always liked this format.
The subject of the potato barn lends it's self to it perfectly to it, not all subject's do.
Centering it like I did also helps this particular painting. There's always a danger when centering something, but this view wouldn't have worked any other way...well it might have, but it works best like this.

-Gene, as far as subject matter..well, there's always a search for it.
And when you find it, you have to then look at it from every angle, every lighting condition when possible to help find the right composition for it. And a strong composition is the key to a successful painting.

You certainly are allowed to disagree with the composition.
I do have a tendency to work in a much bolder graphic nature then most, must be that 14 yrs as an illustrator showing thru.
