This iris is well done.  Some time ago, perhaps eight months ago, I painted an iris using the juice from a very deep purple iris.  The purple changed to blue on drying.  The color has lasted well but I fear it would fade if I let the sunlight touch it.

Thank you Tom.

What a good idea to use the actual flowers essense to paint it.  Have you tried to spray it with a varnish or something to help keep it from fading?

Greetings Kruella, All my small watercolors are unprotected at present but I bought some Krylon Kamar Varnish the other day and plan to spray at least two coats on them when the weather warms.  I do think the natural iris pigmen would fade in sunlight even with the kamar varnish.

Go for it, get your feet wet! Nothing to lose at all, and lots to gain. Will build your selfconfidence too. Start small at local fairs or art associations so you can get the feel of it. Good luck!

Good luck!

Thank you all for the vote of confidence! Actually, I wasn't sure yet which painting I planned on entering. Possible one that I'm just finishing up on. I'll post it when I get it done. I just have a few loose ends to tie up on it yet.

Thank you all very much. I have just one question.........what symbolism do you see in this? It came from a photograph of an iris infront on a gazing ball in my front yard. It's one of my favorite pictures, I've done it over many times in other media too.

The symbolism I was thinking of:
A gazing ball is used by seers to look into the future, or to tell someone's fortune. The iris can be a symbol of the Goddess Iris (I think it is Greek mythology). So together these items represent spirituality.
