Many years ago I painted wet-in-wet but these days I only paint dry brush and don't even use washes.  As I recall wet-in-wet always had a fluid edge. I don't see that in "Beach Girl".  I do like the painting of the little girl.

Nice painting, just needs more contrasts.

I might be wrong this time.

this tells me so, although I would have liked the darks darker and lights lighter on background.

still a good dreamlike painting.

Retha, it's interesting using grey tones to determine the values. I did this oil painting of Marylin using grey tones as an underpainting then glazing.

Richard  - its nice watercolor - but you cant compare it with oil paintings

the brightest white in watercolor is untouched paper

the darkest is not black -its a mixture of complimentary colors

I like to use the white paper instead of opaque white pigment, but do like using Paynes Gray instead of black espesally when doing Asian type watercolors.  Payne's Gray is Cad. Orange mixed with Ultramarine Blue.

Chinese painting does use black ink but I prefer Payne's Gray.
