Hi all....

Although I am definitely more comfortable with pen&ink.....I really love watercolor and am striving to be better at it.  I've only done a few pictures,  and this was the best.  I realize that I have a long way to go with color mixing and perspective.  My goal is to (someday) loosen up and stop focusing on hard lines so much.  Let me know what you think.

Very well done Jess. Reminds me of a Hopper style.

I like the effect of this. Maybe it's because the painting is laying flat and your taking the
photo from an angle, but it gives it a sort of fish eye lens effect. The painting is very nice.
The colors and shading are very well done.

You are off to a good start in watercolor. This is very good perspective which is hard to learn, and you will get much better as you go because you have the feel of it. As Jim said, colors and shading are very well done.

Thanks for the positive comments! Starting out with a new medium, especially something as unpredictable as watercolor can be a bit frustrating....especially for a control freak artist! But I like it so far. I love looking at the other watercolors in this forum and it inspires me to WANT to learn more so I can improve.

Raysart.....I checked out a site featuring Hopper's work and I see what you mean. He has a couple of lighthouses that DO look similar in color and style. Thanks for mentioning that.....I had never seen his paintings before and it was fun to look through his work.

Sorry Jess I am late
Its a nice watercolor
the intersection between tower and house is not correct
its difficult when 3 bodys meet : a cone +a roof + a cube
please ask an expert in geometry - I am not able to explain it with my poor English

Hi Egon......don't worry, I know what you mean. I didn't realize how "off" it was until I had already started painting. I had no idea how to fix it by that point, so I just decided to finish the painting anyway. I picked up an artist's book on perspective which I hope to read through and practice with before starting my next landscape painting. It won't be for a while though. I'm working on a pen&ink floral right now (you probably saw it in the drawing forum) and I refuse to start anything new until I finish it. Unfortunately.....I probably won't be finished for quite a few weeks

It does help.....maybe before I start my next painting......I'll do a sketch and post it so that I can get feedback on whether or not I got the perspective right BEFORE I start painting. Thanks!
