Hello Everybody! Hope I am not getting too many items posted to this site. I thought I would post a Watercolor since I have posted to Pastels and Drawing. this was done on Arches 140lb Paper with Winsor Newton Paints. Size is 10 inches high by 14 inches wide.

Jean - its absolute beautifull - and an excellent watercolor but sorry I hope you dont mind - IMHO a little composition could improve it to a winner - the klipped flower on the right side doesnt work for me |

| I agree. This is definitely a lovely watercolor. And I also agree with Egon that the little flower on the right hand side is superfluous........it does nothing for the painting, as far as I can see. You can easily fix that simply by cropping the piece while matting it. In fact, I think it would look nice if the outer leaf on the right hand side of the painting would run off of the paper just a touch. Just a suggestion. The flowers themselves are beautiful. No, you haven't posted too much. Keep 'em coming! You are very good..........Gene |

I think that the rule along the lines of "the eye will always go to the area of highest contrast" is very true. In this case for me that is the base of that heavy dark leaf against the blue sky. My eye always moves away from the absolutely gorgeously rendered flowers to this area. I feel this is the only thing that is problematic for me. I'm fine with the cropped flower on the right, I just feel the star actor hero flowers are being upstaged by the villainous dark leaf! Very nice work. |

Hi Egon, Kruella, Gene, Heather and Lancelink! Thank you everybody for your comments i I know we all have different ideas about what works! I like the cropped flower on the right because I think it gives more depth to the painting, and the small leaf along side it brings your eye back in to the painting. The two large leaves photographed a little darker than they really are in the actual painting. I tried to fix the color but my photo program made them really dark! On my computer they are looking almost black and they really are green! I have already sold this piece so I cannot make any corrections. Will keep in mind your suggestions for my next piece. Jean |

Hi Jean, I just checked out this post and your flowers are very good. Have you seen the new Forum ‘All-media Paint Off?’ I look forward to seeing more of your work. Congratulations on selling the piece. Leon
