These are awsome! The top and bottom ones are right on! The middle one, I would suggest stronger value tones in the shirt, as the shirt seems to blend right into the stones behind the little boy and I don't see many values in the shirt. His pose is priceless, innocent little boy, his expression says he is a gentle little soul.
The bottom one, there is such character and concentration in the man's face. Beautiful composition and colors.
The top one the little boy seems to be saying "What? I'm not doing anything", rich colors and reflection. Please keep your work coming, it is really excellent. |

Hi Heather. Thanks for the feedback. I see what you mean about the shirt in the middle one. This is actually done from a slide of my oldest son taken about 27 years ago. |

Oh what fun! I have always wanted to go back and pick out treasured photos and paint them, but am having trouble keeping up with current ones. My grandchildren are growing much too fast for me. I have done both my grandaughters but grandsons are waiting, and here I am doing still lifes, a seascape etc instead. Bad Granny! Never mind, I am the artist so I can choose what to paint right? I can't paint all the time and that is what the problem really is. No worries, I will get there.
I love your work, in your bio you said you entered juried competitions, did you get accepted? When I was doing that, the rejections were more than the acceptances, but I kept plugging away and finally won some ribbons. But that was a long time ago. Just got back to painting last year and this time I am just having fun with it for now, then maybe will do something serious with juried shows etc.
You have inspired me to do a self-portrait from a photo someone took of me four years ago that came out really great, shows my personality etc, something I can't seem to get from a mirror, I look too serious studying myself Plus I looked younger then as my hair was longer and I had more of it. This way I can preserve the "illusion" of youth on canvas
Looking forward to seeing more of your work. |

Hi Heather. It was an emotional experience to be able to find an old photo that might make a keepsake for my family. I would encourage you to do the self portrait you speak of. I agree that photos are easier to work from than mirrored views. I have only one grandchild to date and although I have many many photos ( they call me 'pappyrozi') I'm waiting for the right photo before I do a painting. Juried competitions have been rewarding for me with a good success rate of acceptance so far, however I'm venturing now beyond the local scene and I'm prepared for rejection. Bob |

Bob, Beautiful work! Amazing detail work and creases in clothing. When you look at a painting and ask yourself "how'd he do that?", You know you are looking at a labor of love. Jim

Great work Bob. I love watercolors that challenge the common perception of what a watercolor looks like and these do that in spades. Great intensity. Thanks for posting. -L |

| Nice paintings............I particularly like the one of the little boy. I like the reflections that you put into the floor in the mall or wherever you were. The little boy's expression is priceless.......Thanks for sharing these.....Gene |

Thanks Kippie, Vikingwife, Lanceinks. Gene and Materese for your comments As I have had little exposure so far and it is good to hear feedback from the art community. I have been enjoying the time I have dedicated to painting and your feedback is important to me. Keep up your own endeavours. The pursuit may not always be profitable but the journey is rewarding. Thanks, Bob |
