Hi Janey, Thanks for stopping by my site. I've been painting for about 3 years now. A late bloomer. I waited till I was 50 before I began. Jim

Hi Jim,
I guess I still have hope. It must be difficult for a man who has to take care of family and also devote to his love in painting. A long road to success uh?!!

Hi Janey, I guess it depends on what you think of as success. Sometimes just getting out of bed is a success. I'm successful with my friends and family as far as the painting goes and I don't really need any real acclaim. Just getting support and help from my peers and learning from there work and comments has been very rewarding. Jim

Hi Gene,
Thank you for visiting my site and all the nice comments. I like portrait because I think it's very challenging; however, caricature would be even more challenging, I think, do you think so? The pumpkins that I carved were very valuable experience. I remember someone said :"...if you draw, you should sculp too because they go hand in hand." I want to sculp more than just pumpkin.
I like your painting, the holly flowers, very nice. Do you do mostly flowers? Do you have a website? Where are you locating, I am at Calgary, Canada.

| Janey, No, I do landscapes also and some still lifes. I live in Michigan. No, I don't have a website. Need to improve a lot more before I venture out in that direction. I belong to two art groups here in Grand Rapids. We have many, many professional artists in both groups. I am constantly seeing very excellent work, so am very aware of my limitations. I do get into many juried shows and occasionally sell pieces, so I am very encouraged by that. But, now I am trying to paint often and take classes and improve all that I can. I started this painting quite late in my life. Now, I'm hoping for at least 15 more years to try to get better. Most of the good artists I know have been doing art all of their lives. Wish I had started younger...........Gene |

| Janey, I just went to your website. I absolutely love the drawing on the front of the Madonna and Child. Is that a pencil piece? When I enlarged it I though I could see some color in it. Your other pieces are lovely, too. I particularly like the black dog and the one of the monkeys against the green blue background. You are very good................Gene |

Hi Gene,
Thank you very much for your nice comments. Yes the first page is a pencil drawing; I called it "A Chapter of Life". It shows a little color because when I took picture, there is reflection of the light. I am not good of taking pictures.
After getting my computer, I found out more information from internet; the more I learn, the more I need to learn. This network gave me a lot of info through all the artists and are very valuable. I am not very good of colors especially when I do a portrait, I would have question of the back ground as how to approach it. Some told me that dark at the bottom and gradually light to the top, is it right? Any advices?
