| This piece is for a client and he has yet to see it. It has taken me months to finish. It is actually a red boat reflected in one of the many lakes near my client's home. This is by far the most difficult piece I have ever attempted and I am desperate for a critique. |

Wow, Suzanne. The color is so vivid and the complementary scheme works perfectly. I can't say that I would have recognized the reflection as a boat but I'm not sure that matters. The forms and colors make it dramatic and so energetic. It almost works as an abstract. My eye is drawn to the two mooring posts as the focal point and then to the upper right where the water is roiled by that trail of green which appears no where else. How big is it and on what support?

| Thank you Barbara for taking the time to reply. The image size is 26 1/4 X 38 1/8. It is done on large sheet of colorfix sanded pastel paper. I don't really think that it matters if it is recognized as a boat either, but I thought it might be easier to explain what it is...This piece was a technical challenge from the get-go... Including getting it to sit properly on my easel! I was mesmerized watching this reflection and the interlocking amoebic shapes and I bet I shot 30 pics of it. I knew it would be hard but I guess I didn't realize how hard. What would this even be classified as? A landscape? An abstract? |

Hi Suzanne, Wow...a monumental work! I have never used Colorfix sanded paper, but I might try...the effects you have achieved are stunning. I didn't ask what kind of pastels you used but the colors you have achieved are amazingly saturated (Sennelier, Schmincke, Unison?). You must have used a lot of pastel to cover that size sanded surface. I don't know what a contest judge would classify it as. I guess since I don't think it is recognizable as a boat, that I would say an abstract. Great work. Barbara |

This is amazing work! Detail intensive work will drive you crazy, but the end results are well worth it. Whatever you call it, marine, abstract, etc, it's beautiful. Most people looking for art are looking for colors that match their decor so theme wise this is going to fit a lot of potential needs and wants. I went to your website and was blown away! Your water work is amazing. I was going to suggest you put part of the boat in another painting but I see you have already done that and very well! I hope you decide to stick around this forum. Your talent level and experience is something we can all draw from. |

| Thank you Jim and Thank you Priti! you too Barbara! I had a lot of intimidation and insecurtiy to overcome in all stages of this piece. It wasn't until this weekend that I could finally see the piece as a whole myself...Instead of the all the 'parts' I worked on. I am very happy to say that my client loved it! I use all sorts of pastels...nupastel, schmincke, sennilier, unison and my favorite girault... just to name a few! |
