Don't bother to make a title, I just call it 'portrait of the week' from now on. This lady has been my constantly model at work.  When I have no one to paint, I'll grasp her, and she's always willing, sitting down naturally.

Pastel on velour paper, 14" x 19" Welcome comments/critiques. Thank you.

This is beautiful. Her hand is so graceful and I picture her as equally kind. I love how you did the flowers in her sweater/top.

Sandi,

You do beautiful work!  I love the way you just added that white on her forhead and I too like the way you did the sweater, it doesn't take away from her beautiful face.

Great work!

Very Good! You have a talent for using color and value to make the face and hands come forward off the surface and give a strong sense of depth. I would be interested if you are willing to describe your technique for doing this and the other wonderful portraits you have posted.

Thank you all.
Sorry for late reply to Kensbruth. If my experience can be of someone's help, I am willing to share, as I have learned from others. It's strange that I never think about how I do it, just build up and build up from the flat surface until it makes sense. I am using Velure paper which has a velvet soft surface. It could be the thing. And I paint from life, so which part is in front is obviouse. Make the front part more detail and push others by blurring them(soft edges). Oh, another thing, I hold the charcoal(pastel) just like holding a oil bruth, my hand is floating when paint. Don't know if you understand.
If you ask specific questions, I will answer to it.
Hope it helps.
