| This is a quick pastel of the top figure on a totem pole. Very interesting how the light was hitting it in the sunshine. I'll add it to the May show. Please let me know what you think. |

| Jim, I'm coming back to this one for the second time. I've hesitated, but if you don't mind me saying, I think it needs something, but I'm trying to figure out what. Not so much with the head - I think you have portrayed it very accurately with the perspective angle, colors, etc. I think with the addition of a little more darkness where the sides approach the back and subduing the sky so that it's not the same brightness as the head you might achieve more dimension. With the lighter sky, make the top slightly darker (but hardly noticeable) and go lighter down the page. (Reverse how the sky is now, but lighter.) What do you think? |

Finally!! My first comment here on this piece! Thank you so much Kim! Your comments are always appreciated. I just liked the feel of this one. It reminded me of someone soaking up the sunlight. The play of shadows from a sun that has replayed this same affect over and over on this aged and weathered face still shows the pride that the original carver put there to begin with. Darkening the sky on top and gradually making it lighter would I think take away that high noon look. This painting is definitely not for everyone, as can be seen by the number of responses to it, but here in the Northwest I think it will be of interest to a few people. At least I hope it will. |

| I hope it will, too, Jim. You're so right - it's unique and wonderful and hopefully someone will come along and see its value and appreciate your hard work. I'm sure I'll see a few more of your works before the show, but in case I don't remember to tell you, I wish you lots of success that weekend. You've certainly worked hard and diligently. |
