I did this pastel few months ago. I thought it was not bad so I entered to 2 different jured show during the past few months.  It was twice rejected. I don't know why? May be something wrong that I don't see? May be the title? I named it 'Intimacy'. I post it here for critiques.

Pastel, 19.5" x 27.5", beginning with a life model, finished follow a photo.

This is good, but you never know for sure just what jurors are looking for.

All the best,

I found that a student of a juror is most likely to be chosen to be accepted and also to win.
Another thing that happens is, if you paint what the juror paints...... seascape or a bridge etc. If They paint those subjects then one is more apt to be selected.
The only small thing that I might think of is the lighting or perhaps the strong colors or light on the feet. When this is done it will distract from the focal point.
So do not be upset for they are only people. So don't give up!

I should not be upset for the painting is rejected(well, just a little), but I would be upset if I don't see the mistakes. Your comments gives me confidence about this painting. Thank you !

While your technique and abilities are just about flawless, for me the position of the model looks a little uncomfortable or maybe too posed. She also looks like she is kind of sticking her stomach out unnaturally. For some reason, that I can't put my finger on, the model isn't that pleasant to look at. In my opinion, your portrait of the week on 4/15/09 is truly outstanding, I can't stop looking at it. You do amazing work.
