Sandi,

Every time I look at one of your portraits, I am awed.  To have completed a portrait like this during lunch is amazing to me.  You have great talent!  I love the flesh tones.  I believe you have captured the eyes with great expression.  My only small comment would be to cool down the shadow on his neck which looks warm to me.   This is so minor that perhaps it does not need to be mentioned, but shadows generally are cooler than the areas in the light.

Hi, Sandi,

How do you handle the logistics of a lunchtime portrait sitting? Do you have a meeting room you can go to? Do you work in a cubie or in a lunchroom? If the latter, I'll bet you get a few commissions as people watch you work. I'd really like to know how you handled this.

Hi, Claire,

To answer your question, I simply paint in mine or my co-worker's cubicles. My tool is a 9" x 12" x 2" Rembrandt soft pastel box with 60 colors, and a piece of Velour paper. Very handy and light. No problem to bring it to any where. If you want to know more, I open the pastel box, put on top of the garbage can(every cub has it), hold the paper board on my lap and paint. If the cubicle is near the window, I use soft light, if not, I turn on the hard light. Either one is good for learning. For an artist like me cannot afford full time, this is the way keeps me paint every day.

Thanks, Sandi. Great suggestions. I struggle with working art into the work day, too. This gives me hope, although, I often work through lunch. Maybe I need to take an art break once in a while.

Hi, Rae,

Thank you, but no one is born a natural, it's all hard work, I believe.

This is the first male portrait I see from yours. Very well done, like others; but is the right ear bigger than the left one?
