Hi I'm posting a picture of my preliminary sketch for a larger painting in soft pastel. I've been an artist on and off since 1988 whenI graduated. But I'm very new with the computer and posting. I just joined the community and can't wait to look at the work and get some critique on my own.I hope you can see the image. Thanks lynne

Hi, Lynne,

I like this sketch very much.  You have captured that hazy shoreline light that we have here in CT.  For the final, you have a choice...you can continue with a hazy look or you can punch up the value differences and make it a bright sunny day.  I like that the path disappears...leads the viewer in.  But I think the light form at the end of the path is ambiguous...is it part of the path or is it a little pond.  Bending the path more might make it appear ot be a pond or narrowing the shape itself might make it look more like part of the path.  Also you might try spreading the orange around not in so obvious a pattern.  I really like the brush strokes.  Hope you do the bigger piece and post it.

Hi barbara.thank you for commenting on all three of my pieces.this was done very fast from another sketch and photos. The haze was awesome...up at quoddy state park's the carrying place cove.the haze was so thick that day you could barely see the ocean!

Im glad i captured it. i have actually done the larger piece and will post it soon.I got a honorable mention  in the pastel division at a local show(the judge passed on my one with the figure and rocks)but she liked the one i did from this and commented on its"atmospheric quality"and thought it was a good direction for me to move in.

its at a show now where i got 3rd place overall.when i get it home ill  put pictures on. But i think i like this little sketch more. its actually oil pastel...you can do alot of cool things esp like the grasses which I actually scratched in.

you have a great eye for spotting things!i see that spot now and its actually part of the path and the red line of flowers really isnt that obvious.having other artists have alook at your work is a great tool!!!!!thanks lynne
