I agree with the unfortunate alignment of the wall with the tree. And after my critique of your studies, I looked for the focal point and to tell you the truth I don't think I had one. The thing that intrigued me about the scene was the wall so maybe subconsciously I wanted it to be the focal pont but I agree that the upper left worked out better than the rest of the painting and certainly draws my eye. As far as the colors go, as I said I am not always happy with the result...this was a gloriously bright sunny day and yet I did not capture that. The haze in the distance is true to our CT atmosphere but the midground was much brighter. The wall was shaded by the tree.
I have used Wallis paper only once and found it so receptive to my pastels that I had trouble controling my modelling and shading. I am now using LeCarte paper which I like a lot. It is not as gritty as Wallis but takes many more layers than the Canson paper.
