I just finished the portrait below. I've changed the background with the help and suggestions from some great people.  When I look at the portrait my eyes are drawn to his right ear, which continues to bother me.  I'd sure appreciate everyone's opinion before I decide whether to make additional changes or not.

Thanks!

Gwen

Gwen, well done - wow - what expression. I see what you mean about the ear. You may want to try lightening the background around the ear or darken the ear a bit. My guess is that the contrast between the background and the ear causes the eye to go there.

Very well painted and I love the way the muted tones work on this piece!

Your work is VERY well done. You did a great job using the complementary colors for the shirt and background. If you lighten the back with a little more of the yellow especially around the ears it would draw less attention to the shape, also create more harmony between the background and the foreground. But saying that I love the piece. There is a great appeal to the character of the individual you have drawn. I can almost hear this person chuckle.
