Bec,
I have to be honest here...I don't have a good imagination! I draw & paint from photos. I can invision scenes, piece things together and create a story in my work, but as far as 'making' an animal...NOT!

Some/most artists can draw any animal or whatever they want to from their mind/imagination, I just can't seem to do that.

Feel lucky and very talented that you can draw and paint from your imagination!

Imagination is the greatest part of being creative and I wish I had more of it...

Mike, if I were drawing something as detailed and realistic as you do I would have to have a reference photo or something. I can draw from my imagination because I don't use all that much detail, but I do use some detail.

Hi Mike,
Your work is very nice whether you use photos or your imagination.
I believe that anyone who can draw or paint almost anything from their imagination is very, very rare. I think most of us must use some form of reference whether it be from life or from a photo. I think imagination would rank a distant third.
Of course, it would also depend on the subject. If you were doing a fantasy painting, you might use quite a bit of imagination. Or a subject that you were very familiar with in which you would be relying on memory more than imagination.
