After working through a few commissions, getting stuff done around the house, yard & garden, I finally had time to finish "Dog & Cat Day Afternoon"....on to new work...FINALLY!

| Mike, well done! I like how you painted it, and although different dogs, I feel like I'm seeing my own three furry friends staring back at me (especially the cat!). You captured the light very well. Thanks for posting. |

Thank you, Kim & Rhonda!
Kim, the dog in the middle is mine...she is an ornery girl, but a sweetheart too! A hunter in every sense of the word and loves to eat bees...just loves em! I'm happy that you can relate to this painting in some way...
Rhonda, it's simple. I just roll & turn the stick as I move it and it lays down a nice line that makes the grasses and weeds look natural...try it, you'll like it!

Mike, This is a beautiful piece! I have looked at this at least 3 or 4 times and this time I just noticed the cat. Interesting how I saw the dogs right away, but didn't see that cat on the top of the car. I especially like the colors of the overall painting. Fun to use the oranges and the browns.
How large is this piece? I always want to paint these kinds of things, but start out too small and end up way too complicated. The figures are too small to really get any detail. This looks like a good size piece, is it?

Hi Deb, This piece is 12"x18". It is done on Art Spectrum's Colourfix paper (light mauve). One thing I like to do in my work is tell a story or at least have things going on that keeps the viewer's eyes searching the piece. I know that the norm is to have one focal point in a piece, but hey, I never did anything 'normal' in my life! I'm happy to see that you keep coming back to look at it and that you find more when you do come back.... Thank you for your compliment! Mike |

Mike, this piece is really cool and cute. Your work is always awesome. By the way did you say your dog eats bees?!?! We have a Beagle that eats bugs, but I've never heard of a dog eating bees! |

Thank you both!
BecArt, yes she eats bees...all of the time and I can't seem to stop her. She gets stung and keeps on going back for more...same with the toads, she gets sick from picking them up in her mouth, but always goes after them whenever she sees them...a goofy girl she is!
Jay, it's good to see you and all of your great new work back here again!

Mike, your dog puts toads in her mouth!?!?!? eewww Our dogs leave the toads alone, thankfully. But our cat brings dead mice and moles to the house and our dogs eat them, have you ever seen a dog with a mouse tail sticking out of its mouth? eewww |

Thank you for your kind words, Priti!
Sidhartha thank you also, and it makes me feel good that my work evokes memories...
BecArt, yes unfortunately I have seen a dog with a mouse tail sticking out of it's mouth. We live in the country and our dogs seem to find anything and everything out here! I had to get them all off of a feral cat just the other day! Our girl (Smudge) got the worst end of it (she's okay now tho), but she's the one that always has to poke her nose where it doesn't belong...I'm hoping the cat is doing okay!!!! They are fun, but none the less, they are a handful.

| Mike, glad to hear your dog is okay, we don't have a problem with dog-cat fights because our Beagle can't catch them and our Rotty just wants to play with them. But our cat does stalk geese, we just hope she never tries to catch one. |

Mike, I have a question. When you draw or paint dogs and cats do you always draw an actual breed, do you ever just draw one and whatever breed it looks like then thats what it is? I draw and paint flowers and I almost never draw/paint real ones, I just make them up. Everyone always is asking me "what kind of flower is that?" and I tell them I don't know, I made it up. I know animals are very different, but I was just wondering. I probably should try drawing more "real" flowers, I guess it's not so great to be making them up. Bec |
